TAUPO GIRLS' MARCHING TEAM

T'here are now 24 girls enrolled in the Taupo Girls' Marching Team. Their instructor, Mr Tierney reports that the girls have now completecl their first course of training. He is still very pleased with their progress. As the girls need niore room for the second course, Rickit's Hall is now booked for every Wednesday from 7.30 p.m. ti'll 9 p.m. This will probably be to the end of October When the days become longer the girls wrill proceed with the final training in the recreation ground. It has been decided to have a par- I ents* night now and again. This will be an opportunity for the parents to see the progress their girls have made. ^ The girls are very grateful for donations from Messrs L. Haines, T. Webster, P. Avel'ls, J. Watson, C. McUean, H. Minett and Murray Marple (Plasterers, Napier'). It is unfortunate that Mr Corrie, who has been ill has not been -able to attend lately. The organisation wishes him a speedy recovery. Mr Ourrie held a commission in the last war and also served as a military instructor in the Middle East. He has had experience in coaching and judging of girls' marching teams in Taranaki. This knowledge, says Mr Tierney is very valuable as far as the finer points of the girls' training is concemed and ihe local team has every opportunity of achieving first class form. Successf ul Dalice. The dance held in Rickit's Hall on 'August 29 to help the Taupo Girls' Marehing Team was "a great success and the evenin^ was a very enjoyable One. The aim is to raise approximately £160 so that every girl in training can be turned out with a complete uniform. The- girls wish to thank all those who helped them at the dance, particularly the performers from Napier, who dr'ove all the way fo help them, free of expenses. They put on an excellent show.
