TAUPO BOY SCOUTS
LOCAL ASSOCIATION FORMED The public meeting called for the formation of a Taupo Boy Scouts local Association last week was very poorly attended, much to the disappointment of the conveners, as 17 boys had already be.;-un their preliminary S^out traimng, and a much larger attendance was naturally expected. However, interest an^ enthusiasm compensated for the lack of numbers, and the auspices for the estabiishment of Taupo's first Boy Scout Tioop are considered favourable. The Association has obtained the services of IMr W. Harding as Scoxxtmaster, and Mr Rex Beale as Assistant. The new local Association is represented by the following personal: — President and Patron, Brigadier Clifton. Chairman, Mr C. Thomas. Secretary-Treasurer, Mrs PearL Vice-presidents, Messrs Wallace, Silva, Baumberg, Murray, Buckleigh and Pearse. Members: Mesdames Thomas and Nicholls, Miss E. Ricket, and Messrs Currie, Kilford, Osborne and Nicholls. The executive elected at the meeting consisted of Brigadier Clifton, Mr C. Thomas, Mrs Peart, Mr J. Woodward, as officers, and Mesdames Donnelly and Nicholls, and Messrs Buckleigh, Currie and Wallace, as members . Formal application is to be made to Scout Headquarters for registration. Executive Meeting. At a meeting of ^ the Executive Committee held later, Mr Thomas presided, and the following* were proposed and elected to the local Association Mesdames A . Wailace, McLaughlan, Heba; Miss D. -M. Coben, and Messrs C, Vedder, J. D. Donelly and J. Smith. Apologies were received from. Messrs Buckleigh and Wailace^ Mr Currie asked to be released from the Executive on aecount of pressure of business, but assured the Association of his continued interest and eooperation. On the motion of Mrs Peart, seconded by Mr Thomas, Miss E. Rickett was elected to the vacancy. iMr W. Harding moved, and Mrs Donelly seconded, that Mr . Beale should inquire through Mr Chiel in regard to a small piece of land to be used for the accommodation of a Bcout Hut. It was decided to inform the Commissioner of Bo> Scouts of the progress of the movoment in Taupo, and to request an eaiiy visit. Mrs Peart was appointed seribe for the Boy Scout Troop, on the motion of Mrs Donelly, seconded foy Mrs Nicholls. Mrs Heba's offer to help for the Boy Scouts was gratefully accepted. Arrangements are in train for the Commissioner to enrol the first lot of boys for the First Taupo Troop. Parents and Guardians wi* be duly hotified of t'he time and place. Scoutmaster W. Harding, with Assistant-Scoutmaster R. Beale, and Troop-leader Barry Thomas, are making satisfactory progress with the training of the boys. Up to date 47 names have been handed :in» From this number 36 will be selected foi the Troop, this being the regular estabiishment.
