THE NEW AUSTIN VISITS TAUPO
It "Stole" The London Show On Friday morning* Taupo car enthusiasts are going to have a fleeting opportunity to see a demonstratioxi model of the new Austin A.30 which was first shown to the public at the Olympia Motor Show in London last October. . It's only other appearance at a public exhibition was at Brussels early this year. In London it quite stole the show. The A.30 is the direct descendent of the Austin Seven, which became so popular when it came on the market over 25 years ago, but went out of production shortly before the outbreak of the last war. Like its earliler coiraferpart, the A.30 comes onto the world market as an economy car at a time when the public is looking for something to fit the purse of the mari with a modest meome. At that pomt, however, simiiarity ends, for the sleek, smart lines of the new model, together with its comfort and pe*> fcimance, have nothing m common with the angular gauky car which ehmed for itself the soubriquet of "ihe, crystal set' in those early years of small car developmeni;. THough little larger than the 'crystal set' the A.30 develcps, as its name im.pli.es,. up to 30 horse power, and its makers elaim that it reaches a speed comparable with the popular A.40; At present, only demonstration models'are available in this country and, as will be seen in our advertising columns, one of these is taking a qiiick tour of the Austin agents in the Auckland Province, and will be on view for 90 minutes only on Fri- i day morning at Allan Wilson Motor s LfdL, in Tuwharetoa Street. The price in New Zealand, and the date of tieliveries of the new . car are still imeertain, but it will interest most motoring enthusiasts to obtain a preliminary view of a car, which will no doubt, attain popular ity rivalling tbe original 'seven' as a car for the small family.:
