TAUPO GOLF CLUB
The fourth round of the Senior and Junior Stableford competition was played on Thursday, July 31st., when the following excellent scores were recorded. Mrs Cheal and Mrs Berggren, 36 points; Mrs Bush and Miss Orr, 36 points; Mrs Hullten and Mrs Falkner, 30 points; Mrs Vedder and Mrs Collett, 29 points. In a semi-final match for th^ Patron's trophy played during the week-end, iMrs Vedder and Mr V. Wilson defeated Mr and Mrs A. Graham one up. Taupo Links Praised. A progressive golf club is situated at Taupo and the nine hole course is full of interest (wrote "Niblick" in. the Waikato Times of a preEaster ediition which has just come under our notice). Unfortunately water is not laid on to the greens but the putting surfaces are good and rain will cure any defects. Titree and scrub adjoins all fairways and pine trees prove a good hazard. The fairways are undulating and it pays to play straight all the time. Taupo is a rapidly progressive town and it has been found that the nine hole course iis becoming" too congested, so plans have been prepared and work is under way to open a further nine holes and complete the course. The work will probably take six years and will be done gradually. The proposal appears sound but on the other hand it might oe that a good nine hole course with its moderate upkeep and overhead may be better than a full length course that will certainly mean extra greenkeeping stafF and increased subscriptions. However, this^ course is recommended to ali golfers as a sporting lay-out full of interest and charm. — j
