Favoured by fine weather, work on the final stages of the Taupo Hydro-Electricity Scheme has made progress. The above picture shows the forebay of the spillway with the opening to which are to be fitted the penstock tubes carrying the water to the turbines below. The gap in the spillway wall remains to be filled in before the dam is closed to transform the stream into a lake.
