Rowlands recently resumed his duties after a holiday leave of three weeks, spent in Wellington. * * * /Mr Jim Birnie, the popular host of the Spa Hotel, has been laid aside for an operation at Napier Hospital. This was satisfactory, and the patient is well on the road to the resumption of his normal activities. * * # JFAUPO (WOMEN *S IN STITUTE At the monthly meeting of the Taupo Wopien's Institute pleasure was expres^ed at the number of old faees back again, and a welcome extended to trwo new members. Following discussion on a letter from the R.S.A. with reference to the i'und-raising campaign, two delegates were appointed to represent the Institute at the public meeting convened to decide ways and means. The Institute last year donated £75 to the Memorial Hall Fund, and members expressed their willingness to give further assistance where possible. Mrs Glass brough along a useful "Kitchen Tray," and gave instructions how to make it. Competitions at the meeting were won by Mrs Osborne, who entered an attractive embroidered cushion, and the article made from wool fcompetition; Mrs Arnold won the competition for the decorated dish* Mrs Stowe, the best vegetable; best spray, Mrs Glass; best bloom, Mrs G. Taylor.
