The above is part of Tongariro Street as it was in 1907, when Rickit's Hall, standing beside the tall tree, was built by Mr J. Rickit. The hall is nearest the tree. The part of the building showing the verandah was Mr Rickit's Store, and the building on the near side of the picture was used as a storage place for goods. On the opposite corner, beyond the tree (about 1920), was George Reid's Store. Later on this was moved further down the street— it is now a beauty parlour— and the vacated corner was occupied by a new store built by George Reid, and in later years owned by Mr Harry Minett till his retirement from business last year.
