Mrs H. Minett, of Mere Road, is visiting in Hawkes Ray. * * * Mr M. A. McKean, of Palmerston North, has been appointed to the clerical staff of the Taupo Town Board, and has assumed his new duties. * * * Mr J. Loughlin, who recently resigned from the Stores Staff of the Publie Works Camp in Taupo to enter into private business left for Dannevirke, his new home, on Saturday last. Mr Loughlin has been a prominent figure in Sporting circles during his stay in Taupo and a very live member of the cricket and football clubs, and of the Gymkhana Committee, and his departure will be a serious loss to those bodies especially. Prior to his departure he was the recipient of mementoes of his association from the various sports bodies in appreciation of his interest and servijce in their welfare. ifc * Sfc A number of visitors from Auckland came to Taupo on Saturday, July 5 to attend the monthly meeting of the Masonic Lodge. Many of them brought their wives down for th£ trip and returned. to Auckland on the Sunday moming. The following is the list of visitors and the hotels at which they stayed: — Onslow House. — Mr and Mrs G. Simpson, Mr and Mrs C. Simpson, Mr and Mrs D. Wadey, Mr and Mrs D. Menzies, Mr and Mrs T. Kyle, Mrs R. Shirley, Messrs C. Flanagan, A. Whitson, W. Fountain, P. R. Short. ISpa Hotel. — 'Mr and Mrs L. Harris, and Messrs F. Slaughter, D. Cooper and R. Russell. Hotel Wairakei. — Mr and Mrs B. J. Crowley, Mr and Mrs A. Ward, and Mr A. Brown. Lake View. — Messrs B. Boyd and B. Thompson. * * Sfc TAUPO WOMEN 13 INSTITUTE The Taupo Women's Institute held their July meeting at the home of Mrs R. McMillan, Mere Road, on Wednesday the 9th. inst. An interesting discussion took place on the subject of Cacti, of which Mrs McMillan has started a small collection. Mrs King gave each member a cutting of "Kaka Beak" (Red Kowhai), and Mrs McMillan showed some excellent photographs of the Wairakei Stream bores. Afternoon tea was served and enjoyed by all. The flower competition was won by Mrs Osborne. * # * VALEDICTORY , REV. H. W. & MRS JOHN STONE FAREWELLED On Sunday, June 29, a crowded congregation filled St. PauTschurch Taupo, the occasion being the farewell service conducted by Mr Johnstone, after a devoted and fruitful ministry covering three and a half years. A feature of the service was the presence on parade and in strength of the St. John Ambulance Brig'ade, ander its divisional superintendent, Mr Kennedy. * By the special request of Mr Johnstone, no public farewell had been arranged, but after this service supper was served in the vestry of the church, and an opportunity thus given for personal good byes. In presenting a cheque from members and supporters of St. PauPs Church, Mr Rickard expressed the deep regret of all concerned at the departure of Mr and Mrs Johnstone. He spoke feel'ingly of devoted service over the years, for Maori and Pakeha alike, for faithful visitation, and ready assistance in every good work. He referred to Mr Johnstone's love and concern for the youth in our midst. This was demonstrated in his constant and effective conducf of bible in school lessons in the local and all sur-

rounding schools, as also in the work especially near his heart with the Boys' Club. Mr Rickard asked Mr Johnstone to accept for Mrs Johnstone and himself the warm thanks and good wishes of young and o!d alike. In response, Mr Johnstone thanked members and friends for their expression of good- will, and also for the ready co-operation received at all times. The Benediction was pronounced, after which regretful farewells were made. It is Mr Johnstone's intention to make a home in Auckland for Mrs Johnstone and himself. The thanks and good wishes of the citizens of Taupo go with them.
