SCHOOL RUGBY AND BASKETBALL

t Taupo District Association On Saturday, June 28, rugby enthusiasts saw the Taupo District Primary Schools' Sports Associaticn's second series of foot ball and basketball under rather unsettled weather eonditions. It was pleasing to see the Tauranga -Taupo Maori School present on the day with the Mokai, Maroa, Waitahanui, Oruanui and Taupo Schoois. For this second series, play had improved a great deal. This was especially noticeable in the under 7-stone match between Taupo A and Northern B (Mokai, Maroa and Oruanui combined) where play was very even and of a high standard. However, " the Northern side in the last two minutes of play managed after a hard struggle to place the ball over Taupo's line, Northern winning the game by 3 nil. The senior game (i.e., over seven stone), between Taupo and Northern provided excellent football. It was pleasing to see good hard clean tackling and good hard clean football. A 7-aside game completed the day's play between Waitahanui and TaurangaTaupo. However the TaurangaTaupo team were far too good for the Waitahanui team, which ended 16 points to 3 in their favour. The thanks of the teachers and children are due to Mr McNab, of Tutukau, Mr D. Rameka, and Mr Harding, who refereed the football. ihe results of the football were: Under 7 stone. — Northern A, 0 v. Taupo B, 6; Taupo A, 0 v. Northern B, 3; Waitahanui, 9 v. TaurangaTaupo, 0. Over 7 stone. — Northern, 3 v. Taupo, 3; Tauranga-Taupo, 16, v. Waitahanui, 3.
