GIRL GUIDES AND BOY SCOUTS
The weekly activities of the Taupo Girl Guides are being well maintained, Endeavours are being made to obtain plays, with musical chorus, suitable for girls of guide age. The marching teams (3), are advancing rapidly under the tuition of Lieut. Tierney. Badge workers are advancing to 2nd class grade. Patricia Thomas has won her horsewoman's badge. Eighteen girls are now working hard for their 2nd class scout badge. In regard to reorganisation of the Boy Scouts company, the local association is awaiting an early reply from the Boy Scouts Commissioner touching the i ppointments of Messrs Watson (a qualified scoutmaster). M. Tierney (first-class Scout), and Tony Thomas, aged 18), all of 1 whom are willing to serve in establishing the first Taupo Scout Troop. At its meeting last week the local association received with regret the resignation of the chairman, the Rev H. W. Johnston, of St. PauFs Presbyterian Church, from the movement. Mr Johnston is about to leave the district on account of his wife's health, which has been causing him some anxiety. iMr Charles Thomas was elected chairman to fill the vacancy created by Mr Johnston's resignation.
