Pheasant Makes Long Flight
The question of how far a pheasant will fly is now exercising some Waihi sport&men, especially as pheasfarits on Slipper Island, three miles from the mainland, are not expected to bridge the distance by wing. A pheasant recently shot on the Waihi Plains by Mr E. Rae, of Waimata was 30 miles from the place where is was liberated. It was a ringed bird, placed at Paritu, some five miles north of Whangamata. This reealls the liberation of ringed birds at Waiharakiekie in 1938 by Mr J. Dobbs, chief ranger of the Auckland Acclimatisation Societjr. One was shot at Karamea, 11 miles from where it was liberated; another at Paritu, five miles away and the third at Waihi 16 miles away. l>
