SAVING THE FORESTS

SCHOOL ESSAY PRIZE AWARDS Cash prizes in the recent essay competition among school children on forest fire. Protection, organised by New Zealand Forest Products Ltd., were presented at a function at Kinleith on Saturday, June 14. In presenting first prize to Diana Williams of Tokoroa, Mr F. E. Hutchinson, assistant forest and milling superintendent, congratulated her on a very meritorious effort & pointed out that most of the other entries were of a high standard. Second prize was then awarded to Tony Yase, of Te Awamutu College, and third prize to Nigel Evans of Matamata College and Tutahi Waraki of Mokai school. After refreshments the children, including others whose essays were highly eommended or eommended, were taken on a tour of inspection of the Kinleith sawmills and the pulp and paper mills under eonstruction.
