FIRE PREVENTION

SCHOOL ESSAY COMPETITION In support of the campaign to urge greater vigilance against fire, especially by those living near the exotic forests, New Zealand Forest Products Ltd. recently organised an essay competition among over thirty primary schols in the Rotorua-Puta-ruru-Taupo districts. A high standard was attained and entrants showed keen awareness of the national dangers of forest fire and all the precautions advocated. Results were as follows: — Diana Williams (Tokoroa), 1; Tony Vasey (Te Awamutu College), 2; Nigel Evans (Matamata College) and Tutahi' Waraki (Moai School), equal 3. Highly c'ommended: Betty Gatenby (Tokoroa), Anthony Kingsbury (Atiamuri School), IMavis Lindsay (Springdale School), Martha Rangi (Mokai School). Commended: — Evelyn King, Noleen Biley, Judith McHardy (Tokoroa), Alison Gibbs, Vivienne Park (Te Awamutu College). Prizes will be presented at a function at Kinleith on Saturday, ^ June 14, after which visitors will inspect the Kinleith sawmill in action and the pulp and paper mills under construction.
