We do admire men who can look after themselves and who are not afraid to dabble in the culinary art when the woman of the house goes away on holiday; but there is no doubt that strange and unorthodox cooking takes place on such occasions writes a correspondent. When the wife of one of our local residents returned home after a few day's holiday last, month, she was confronted with the news that her husband and a friend who was staying in the house had suffered a had attack of food poisoning after a meal of steak and onions, and had been in terrible agony for a few hours. The friend who was the cook on the occasion, blamed the metal utensil used for the cooking; but the lady of the house indignantly refuted this suggestion and the mystery deepened. Finally she asked him "what onions he had used." "The ones in the box at the back of the house" was the reply. They had eooked and eaten some of the bulbs of the blooms intended to adorn the garden in Spring!
