The Old Lake Hotel...

The above is a picture of the oSd Lake Hotel, in Tongariro Street, Taupo, it is definitely dated, as witness the four-horse coach drawn up in front of the buiiding. The hotel was built for Messrs Joseph Rickit and Joseph Gaiiagher. It Was the second hotel in Taupo, the first being Mr WilSiam Nobles Taupo Hotel, originaliy the Armed Constabulary Ganteen, which stood on the corner of Tongariro Street and Lake Terrace Road. Mr Rickit relinquished his interest in the hotel at an early date and it was owned by the Gaiiagher family until its recent destruction by fire. Mr Gaiiagher appears in the photograph fourth from the right. Mrs Gaiiagher, with a child in her arms, is the righthand figure on the balcony.
