TAUPO POLICE COURT
Ca.se of Sneak-Thieving Following a complaint received, Constable E. H. Rowlands proceeded to the Hotel Wairakei, and after investigation arrested a young man named Colin Edgar Lyttelton, aged 18, on a charge of stealing £20, the property of one of the hotel guests. In subsequent proceedings before Messrs A. H Reid and W. H Kent, justices, it was stated that two of the hotel guests had gone to the swimming bath and later, when dressing for dinner, one of them discovered that a sum oi money was missing from his wallet. The accused, it was alleged, had been seen leaving the bath at that time. Lyttelton, who was employed as third cook in the hotel kitchen, was convicted and fined £5. As it was his first offence, and the money had been recovered, the Bench treated him leniently, and admonished him, with salutatory advice as to his future conduct.
