FIFTY YEARS ONWARD
NO CLOTHES PROBLEMS No cleaning, no pressing, no laundering, "no starching — just a quick swish of the garden hose on your clothes. Then put them on, revelling in the knowledge that youhe looking your spick and span best. This is not merely an overworked housewife'S wishful thinking. It's a serious* predictlon by dress designer Walter Plunkett who says we can expect this happy state of affairs fifty years from now. According to him, we'll hang our. clothes on a gum sapling, douse them with plenty of water, then step right into them — looking fresh, uncreased and immaculate ! "If /experimentation and perfectiou of fibres continue at the present rate," says Plunkett, who won this year?s Academy Award for his costume work on M.G.M/s "An American in Paris," "no doubt fifty years from to-day milady's gowns will be made of materials unbelievably more serviceable and practical than our fabrics of to-day." So much more so, says the talented designer, that the effects of wear. such as wrinkling, sagging and fading, as well as methods of cleaning and pressing peculiar to present-day fabrics will be obsolete. It v/ill be just a case of some water and a few minutes of drying time and a garment will be in shape and ready to wear. So girls, for tho.se of you who think perhaps you will be around to enjoy the convenience of t'his revoluti°n in wearing apparel, get your hoses ready. There's a good time coming!
