The "Times" has been asked to Iraw public attentidn to ihe fact :hat although the "buliling season" Dpened as from May 1 last, it is deiirable as a measure of public safety bhat persons contemplating burning 3ff and disposal of cut scrub and rubbish heaps should notify the Town Clerk of their intention to do 30, and the locality of their aetivites. It is pointed out that in the 3ase of the recent destruction by fire if the holiday cottage owned by Mr J. Jerram, of Eastbourne, Wellington, some delay in giving the alarm was caused by the impression at first that the smoke came from a rubbish fi're.
