PRINCE CHARLES FASCINATED

BY

CRANE

IN BUCKINGHAM PALACE London's man-of-the-week — in Prince Charles' eyes — is a cranedriver who has been working on renovations at Buckingham Palace. The little Prince was so fascinated with the huge crane that last week he could bear it no longer. "Grannie," he announced, to the (Quen .M other, with whom he was walking in the Palace grounds, "I want to drive the crane." The Queen Mother tried to explain that only big boys could drive cranes. Prince Charles must grow up first. Her grandson, however, was not so easily put off his subject. Finally, she approached the cranedriver in his cabin and inqiuired: "Would it be possible for Prince Charles to see your crane." The driver was more than pleased and Prince Charles enjoyed himself hugely, turning the wheel which makes the chain go up and down, and asking his hero, the driver, all sorts of questions. Later the crane crew wrote in chalk capitals on the side of the crane: "By appointment. Cranedrivers to H.R.H. the Duke of Cornwall." . /
