Survey Pegs Must be Proteted

Because survey marks are expensive and difficult to replace, farmers and other land'holders are urged by the Department of Agriculture to avoid destroying or removing them. Survey pegs should not be taken out of the ground to make way for fencing posts; with care posts can usually be placed without the need for interfering with pegs. A peg in danger *of destruction from a plough, mower, or heavy cattle the department recommends driving more deeply into the ground. These survey marks in general use are 3jn. by 2in. or 2iin. by 2iin. totara pegs 21in. long or iin.- to lin.diiameter iron spike or galvanised iron tubes 18in. long.
