FOOTPATHS FOR WALKERS
Sir, — Not all of us are forunate enough to possess cars or means of locomotion. We are condemned to plod along our shocking roads, pushing our prams, leading our toddlers, trusting to 'the mercy of passing trucks and cars to leave us in one piece, as they hurtle past zooming clouds of dust in their wake. Would it be too mueh to ask the Town Board to run one of their m.achines along the sides of our busiest roads (or arrange with some local contrac- ik tor to do it), such as ,Spa Road, Kaimanawa, Rifle Range etc., and form some sort of footpaths so that we and our children may walk in safety and comparative cleanliness?
This seems a very small request to make— and quite an inexpensive one. I am sure that if our Board would do this small thing they would be com(pensated !by the ifact that people would awake and tidy up their frontages. Surely* Taupo is grown-up enough now to be deserving of footpaths for the many who pay rates, and who will be paying rates in the future. — I am. etc..
