TAUPO SOIL AND SAWDUST
Sir, — I am a mere layman, but I am a. firm believer in sawdust for Taupo conditions. There is absolutely no need to go to a lot of trouble casting in soil and whatnot — (Simply spread the sawdust about an inch thick over your garden (It does not matter how fresh the sawdust is, or what breed it m{ay be). Then- — don't forget you have a hoe! A hoe is the gardener's main essential. Hoe your sawdust in, and keep on hoeing! Plant your plants, give a little liquid manure (no matter what breed) and still keep on hoing! When the rains come, sprinkle your superphosphate, blood and bone (one is no good without the other) and a very light sprinkle of potash, whether wood ashes, sulphate of potash or muriate. But still remember that hoe! You will grow things, and you will find moisture stays in the soil during the summer, with the constant use of the hoe! Sawdust is good. Use it, Put hoe it in !
