,NEW ZEALAND AND U.S.A. COMPARED Dr Bergelin, Associate-Professor on the staff of Delaware University, U. S. A. is staying with his wife and children in Taupo while carrying out research work under a Fullforigbt Scholarship awarded him. His branch of service is chemical engineering, and he is at present studying problems associated with this at the Wairakei Geo-Thermal Experimental Project. Dr Bergelin was the guest speaker at a gathering under the auspices of the Taupo Home and School Association. Taking' as his theme, "Community Life in New Zealand and the United States," he said that rural communities in both countries had much, in common. The pace of social I^fe in American townships and cities was however much mere accelerated. There followed an interval of lively questioning, and informative replies of the lecturer. At the close a vote of thanks was movedby Mr R. Brown, the president of the Homte and School Assoeiation, and carried by acclamation by the large assemblage present. Supper was then dispensed.
