MAORI MISSION WORK

VISIT OF VERY REV. J. G. LAUGHTON The Very Rev J. G. Laughton, Superintendent of ihe Presbyterian Maori Mission, who has been absent abroad for a period in January last. Accompanied by Mrs Laughton, he visited his old station in Taupo, where he was minister for twelve years, on Saturday, March 29, and during that week-end, conducted services at Nukuhao, Waipahihi, and Wai tahunui. Their re-union with the Tuwharetoa at the Maere in Nukuhao was a very pleasant event. In the course of an address to those assembled Mr Laughton stressed the value and importance of wise leadership, and referred to the passing of the late Sir Apirana Ngata, Bishop Bennett, Tupara, Rameka and others. The British Comonwealth, had recently. been bereft of its beloved head His Majesty King George VI, and the speaker dwelt upon the loss which the passing of wise leadership meant to all communities, great and small. Mrs Laughton gave an interesting account of their travels abroad which y/as much appreciated. Mr Laughton addressed a meeting at Waipahihi on Saturday afternoon (March 29), and at Waitahunui on the Sunday morning following. Servies were held at all three places — Waipahihi, Waitahunui, and Nuruhoa that Sunday, and at Taupo in the evening. i
