NEWS AND NOTES

•Two anglers have reason to thank their lucky stars that help was at hand recently. They were wading at the Delta and inadvertently went over the edge into deep water. Both were assisted ashore & are none the worse for their adventure. This shows the need for caution when wading at the mouths of the Tongariro, and the advice of experienced anglers "keep a rod's length from the edge" should be followed by all who fish there. Reeent visitors at the Bridge Lodge were Mr R. Evans, vice-presi-dent of General Motors, U.-S.A.; Mr P. Hogland, an executive of that body and Mr Geo. S«eers, general manager of General Motors in New Zealand. Mr R. Begg accompanied the party. Mr Evans, a. very keen angler, was greatly impressed with the angling- possibilities and hopes to return to Turangi next summer. Mr and Mrs J. Scott Wilson are spending a s'hort holiday in the district. Mr Wilson will be remembered as "mfine host" of the Delta Fishing Camp some years ago. Mr and Mrs J. Storey, who have leased Taylor's Lodge, will have taken over by the time this goes to press. Two highly respected residents of Turangi, Mr and Mrs A. S. Laird, have left to take up residence in Tauranga. Before leaving, they were entertamed at several functions where eulogistic reference were made concerning the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Laird were held, and presentations were made to both.
