At a special meeting of the Taupo Town Board held on Friday last, consideration was given to applications received for the position of caretaker at the A. C. Baths. No decision was reached, and the matter was referred to the monthly meeting this (Wednesday) evening. * ^ Mr H. D. The cases set down for hearing are concerned mainly with prosecutions on informations laid by the Taxation De partment,. and traffic and licensing offences. * * * * In conection with the construction cf the dam for hydro-electric power for Taupo at Hatepe it has been suggested that the foreshore of the conservation should be cleared as complety as possible of scrub and other litter. If this is done research work for the acclimisation and liberation 1 cf biook trout is likely to be more suecessful, with satisfactory results to anglers in the future. * , * * * On Thursday about mid-day a fire broke out in a shed at the back of Mr George Chases residence near the Waikato River. Energetic efforts by the Volunteer Fire Brigade, which responded promptly to the -alarm, suppressed the outbreak, and saved the adjoining residence. Shed and eontents — mostly house-hold litter — were destroyed. It is believed the fire was caused by children playing with matches. Old tires in the shed helped to intensify the blaze. * * * It is not often that a person in danger of drowning retains sufficient presence of mind to cling tenaciously to their portable treasures. Mrs Moore, of Auckland, while on a recent visit to Taupo, was coming ashore from a launch at the Wharf after an excusion on the lake when she tripped over a rope and fell into the water. When rescued she was holding in one hand her purse containing some £20, and on the other a valuable camera.
