TEPID SWIMMING BATHS

Sir, — And not a reply — no-one for and no-one against. Why? . . . Mayhe I am wrong in voicing the opinion that the majority would be in favour of an all-the-year round swimming bath. One worthy citizen remarked to me — "Why do we need a swimming bath? — What's wrong with the lake?" The lake is lovely — but is it appealing in a biting Southerly? or in winter? — Has it been of much benefit this summer — and we may have more summers like this one. Another thing, are the school-child-ren being taught to swim? — One of Taupo's greatest necessities is a large swimming pool where the youngsters may have their swimming classes, where all people may take a plunge when they feel like it — winter and summer, and where our numerous visitors (on whom the Trades-people of Taupo depend) can enjoy aquatic relaxation no matter what the weather. Over Christmas and New Year several thousand visitors stayed in Taupo. Was the Lake teaming with bathers? . . No, the lake was deserted, for she was cold and uninviting. The visitors were miserable with nothing to do. How they'd have revelled in a good Tepid iSwimming bath. Nature has endowed Taupo with so many natural resources — Why not rnake use of them? Does our Town Board consider a large swimming bath would not pay? Or has the Power Scheme so weighed them down that they are becoming dormant. — I am, etc.,

NORDIC.
