These pupils of the Taupo distiict High School successfully pa.ssed the Tests for swimming certificates: — Beginner*s Ctrtificate, 25 yards: Robin Booth, Theresa Crowther, Marie Houghton, Galfred Livesay, Ian Birnie, Mary Russell, Edward Karatau, John Calkin, Peter Donnelly, Harriet Rewa, Bella Whiu, Eddie Paku, Brian Lough. Learner's Certificate, 50 yards: Cynthia Taylor, Robin Knight, Sally Rameka and Samuel Wiwarena. 100 yards: Susan Rewa, Maadi Hough and Seddon Crowther. Certificates of Proficiency, 440 yds: Morna Hurst, Keren Reid, Allan Reading, Shona Torepe, Frances Grace, Christine Pitiroi. Certificates of Merit, 880 yards: James Balmforth, Ian George, William Hartigan, Jennifer Pitiroi and Kiri Hurae. 1760 yards Barney Wall, Joseph Rameka, Maui Hurae, Harry Whetu, Mataroa Whiu, Margaret Pitiroi. Considering the large number of drowning accidents which have occurred elsewhere in N.Z., it is gratifying to see our young local swimmers earning certificates. The tuition and encouragement given to the pupils by the teaching staff is most appreciated. Sports Afternoon A sports afternoon on Thursday last took the place of an annual school picnic for the children in the junior classes, and for the seniors a programme of tabloid sports was arranged and a new idea in recreation which ensures that everyone will actively participate in the progress of the game. The day was favoured with fine weather, and was thoroughly enjoyed by parents and children.
