Sir, — It has been noted over recent months that various articles describing the Geothermal developments at Wairakei, as published in the N. Z. Herald and other journals, invariably refer to Wairakei as being "near Rotorua." No doubt this is unconscious, but nevertheless ; it deprives Taupo of valuable publicity. Had it not been for the efforts of Mr J. Birnie, licensee of the Spa Hotel, Taupo, who has experimented with geothermal steam at no slight personal cost, no press reference would ever have been made to the geothermal steam at Taupo. Mr Birnie's endeavours have proved beyond any doubt that tremendous geothermal possibilities exist within the town of Taupo itself, and for the immediate future benefit of Taupo it is my contention that these possibilities should be investigated and exploited. — I am, etc.,
