OUR BUMPY STREETS
There can be no argument about the fact that the present condition of the Taupo town district thoroughfares leaves much to be desired. Traffic is becoming increasingly heavy, and the roads, for want of systematic attention are correspondingly deteriorating. This state of affairs is not good for the reputation of Taupo as a holiday resort. Futhermore, road safety is jeopardised. According to the report of the Town Board engineer to the last meeting on Febuary 20th: — "The grader is at present in for overhaul and will be assembled when the parts come to hand." This official explanation of the apparent reluctance of the grader to be seen in public may possibly raise doubts in some people's minds as to whether the community is getting value for the cost involved in maintaining it in fit condition for its somewhat spasmodic activities. It certainly does not seem equal to the task of keeping the roads in anything like decent order. People are complaining and it is the duty of the "Times" to place the fact on record. Pumice roads require constant attention, and if they don't get it, potholes and corrugations develop very quickly.
