TOKAANU NEWS
St. Joseph's Convent scholars at Waini, Tokaanu, who sat for the Ngarimu Scholarship towards the latter part last year were an successful, representing a one-hun-dred per cent pass for the school. The scholarships are tenable for four years at seventy pounds per annum and the successful candidates, the Misses Eunice and Lenace Ford, Matilda Mariu, and Evelyn Duff, are now studying at St. Joseph's Maori Girls' College, Greenmeadows. Mrs Stent is at present on a holiday visit to Levin. Guests at the Government Tourists Hotel, Tokaanu include Mr and Mrs Brown, Sydney and Mr Ken Fraser, Auckland. Mr Jack Fear of Hastings is spending a few weeks with Mr H. Buxton. An outbreak of fire in the residence of Mr Jumbo Whetu at Waihi Pa in the early hours of Saturday. morning last was quickly suppressed by Mr Whetu, but not before he was burnt about the face. The many friends of Mrs Peter Northcroft who recently underwent a serious operation in the Taumarunui Hospital will be pleased to learn that she is home again and much benefited in health. Mrs Jack Gardner of Tauranga is at present on a short holiday visit to her mother, Mrs Northcroft.
