WAITAHANUI
ANGLING IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION The fourth annual meeting of the Waitahanui Angling Improvement Association (Inc.) was held at the school house, Waitahanui on February 46, 1952, when the president, Mr 0. S. Hintz, presided over an attendance of thirty-seven members. A number of apologies for inability to attend were received. The minutes of the preceding annual meeting were taken as read, while on presentation of the annual accounts showing a credit balance of £75 15/7 were unanimously adopted. The annual report of the president, reviewed the activities of the association for the year ending October 31, 1951. The major efforts in this period being the endeavour to have the existing groyne removed, the access roads cleared of obstructions also the lake and river fishing dates brought into line. These items were debated at length and when a vote was called for it was resolved to fully endorse the actions of the outgoing executive. The report stated that the fishing during the 1950/51 season was generally good. Limit catches were frequent and' the condition of the fish was excellent. The river fished particularly well in April, even if it was overcrowded in May 4. The "Dave MacNicol" cup for the heaviest fish of the season was won by 0. S. Hintz, with a Brown Trout weighing 12½ lbs. The association co-operated with the Internal Affairs Department as far as possible in the matter of the trout fisheries research. It is hoped to be able to proceed with the association's programme of river improvements during the off season. Officers were elected as follows: — President, O. S. Hintz ed)-Vice-president, Dr H. T. Thomas, (unopposed) and D. McCorkindale (unopposed). Honorary Auditor, C. R. Watson (unopposed). The ballot for members of committee, resulted: — T. K. Butler (Karapiro), L. H. Cheal (Taupo), N. A. Duthie (Taupo), H. H. Edwards (Napier), J. A. Howie (Auckland), I. J. Hutchinson (Auckland), A. Hutt (Waipawa), A. Jacobs (Wellington), S. M. Jones (Wellington), F. R. Logan (Waitahanui), D. An extension of the existing beach amenities was recommended to the incoming executive as was the question of para life membership. It was decided to again approach the appropriate authorities in a further endeavour to have the speed limit through Waitahanui restricted to 30 m.p.h. The assistance freely given the association by Mr and Mrs I. Logan of the Lodge was the subject of appreciative reference, as were the services rendered as members of the committee by Messrs J. Longstaff, A. Bow and N. S. Johnson who did not seek re-election. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman.
