Thursday, Feb. 21. -Messrs H. J. Taylor, of Napier, Lewis Davis and Robert Davis of Taupo, had an unusual experience when fishing from a boat on Monday evening. In Jerusalem Bay on the north side of Dead Horse Point they saw a brown and white boar, and deciding that wild pig on the beach was better than a problemat. ical fish in the lake they returned ai once to their car in McKinley Bay, and thenee to Taupo for rifles and pig dog and returned to the high point on the road between Acacia ajid Jerusalem Bays. The dog lo« cated the pig in heavy scrub down the steep slope near the beach, from which it broke cover and headed up hill, where Mr Robert Davis shot It not far from the road. The animal was of medium size and in good condition. ^
Mhat is perhaps the month's brightest excuse for not paying one's debts was given recently to a local business man. The debtor apparently ^eJt that som-a explanation might be in order to account for the fact that the amount owing had been so long unpaid, and volunteered the information that the amount of Income Tax demanded by the Government was so large that it was impossible to pay the debt as well. Y * * The monthly meeting of the Taupo Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, February 20. Two minutes silence was observed in memory of our late King. Dfelegates were ncminated to attend the first annual meeting of the Rotorua District Feden^on. A short and interesting talk given by Mrs Wells, of her expefiences on her recent trip to Australia. The monthly meetings of the Women's Institute are held on the third Wednesday of each month. * ~ * Negotiations have been completed for the sale of the Taupo Lake Hotel to northern interests, and the erection of the new premises, it is understood, will be commenced at an early date, , rr ■ —
