HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

— Thursday, Feb. 21.; The annual meeting of the Home and School Association was held last evening in Ricket^ Hall, Mr A. J. Buekleigh being in the chair. Those present were Mesdames S. Howie, C. S. Baker, J. Murray, G. Stewart, C. G. G. Salt, K. Reid, Mlss E^ Rickit, Miss R. H. Walters, and Messrs J. R. Osborne, W. S. Ogston, R. Davis, R. Brown, F. Mahanga and J. Dixon. The chairman introduced Mr Osborne, headmaster, and Miss R. H. Walters, a new member of the School Staff, and Mr Osborne briefly referred to the good work of his predecessor, Mr F. Crane and went on to stress the need of parents and teachers getting to know each other as could so easily be done at social gatherings such as the meetings of the association. The chairman presented his report as president for the past year, and read a financial statement prepared by the secretary and treasurer, Mrs K. Reid, which showed a credit balance of £224 14/7. Mrs Reid intimated that for health reasons she would not be able to carry on as 'Secletary-treasurer. The election of officers and comniittee resulted as follows: — President, Mr Brown; vice-presidents, Mrs J. Murray, Mr A. J. Buekleigh; secretary-treasurer, Mrs G. Stewart. Committee, Mrs Howie, /Mrs Baker, Miss Rickit, Messrs J. Dixon and F. Mahanga. Hon. Auditor Miss A. Wehringo. Following a discussion of finances, it was stressed that despite the credit balance available further money would be needed to provide amenities for the school in view of the new buildings now nearing completition, and to provide sports gear and new books for the Ischool libhary. M^r Brown was authorised to solicit donations of goods to be raffled to raise funds. Membership cards for parents to sign and return with the family subscription of 2/6 will be sent out shortly. Last year fortyone such subscriptions only were received, and in view of the good work done for school and pupils by the association in the past it is hoped that many more parents will subscribe this year. , ! Tt was decided to hold monthly meetings of the association on the third Tuesday in each month, nexi meeting to be on March 18, and to endeavour to get guest speakers, to show films of educational interest and to provide supper as previously.
