Mr and Mrs C. J. Monrad have returned to Napier after an enjoyable ten-day fishing holiday in Taupo. * * * A recent visitor to Taylor's Fishing Lodge at Turangi was Major General K. L. Stewart, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., who had been inspecting the camp at Tihoi where the 1st. Battalion of the Auckland Regiment were in training. * * * Mrs K. M. Bingley, of "Crossways," Manurewa, south Auckland, is spending a holiday at her camp in Hatepe. * * * Judge R. P. Dykes is in residence at Motuopa during the session of the land court at present being held at Tokaanu. The Ven. A. F. Hall, Archdeacon of Gisborne, has taken a short lease of Mr W. Irwin's house at Hatepe, where Mr and Mrs Chater of Hamilton* and Dr. and Mrs Reeve of Gis-' borne have been his guests. * * * Mr and Mrs Dan Hursthouse, of Havelock North, are staying on the lake front at Taupo. * * * Mr and Mrs J. W. Durward, of School House, Turangi, have announced the engagement of their daughter Barbara to David R. Black son of Mr and Mrs Duncan Black, who has just returned after three years service in the Bank of New South Wales in Fiji. Until last September, Barbara was sister in j Lautoka Hospital. iShe is now in the out-patients department of the Wellington. Hospital. & * &
Guests due to arrive shortly at Taylor's Fishing Lodge, include Mr William Goodfellow of Auckland, Dr. H. E. Annett of Hamilton, Mr and Mrs J. Grant of Canada, and Mr J. F. Stewart of Melbourne. * * * ■ A letter received from Dr. J. Scaif e Armstrong, now Public Health Officer at Apia, Samoa, conveys good wishes on the birth of the Taupo Times and stresses the service it can give by furnishing local news and history. Dr. Armstrong says his plans are a little uncertain but that he expects to return to Taupo about June 1953 and build .a small house on his property in Northcroft Street. ^ * * Mr Raymond Young spent a few days last week v/ith his parents, Mr and Mrs K. E. Young, Taupo, prior to returning to Massey College for his second year. Mr Young spent the greater part of the long vacation on a farm in th,e Hokonui disfrict, near Invercargill, as paTt of his College course. While in Taupo he spent a day deer stalking in the Tauhara area and shot three stags, the largest a thirteen pointed, J notable as being much darker colour- j ed than is usual. * * * Mr W. H. Kent has sold his residence in Pataka Road, Taupo, the purchaser being a doctor who plans to commence practice here in the near future. His new residence is in course of erection on Lake Terrace Road, opposite the property formerly owned bp the late Mr Wilsley Martin. With an area of 1,200 square feet, provision has been made for three bedrooms, lounge, sunporch, kitchen and all conveniences, ^With a garagp underneath. The site has a fine view of Lake and mountains. A bore provides natural hot water, which is raised by airlift provided by a small engine and compressor, thus avoiding the use of a pump. A flow of about 300 gallons an hour is available at a temperature of 145 degrees F.
