Current Seasonrs Matches. /» The Taupo Crcket Club commenced the season very enthusiastically with five matches in the first six weeks of the season, but it was m/ost unfortunate that two later matches had to be cancelled by opponents and the club has not played a match now for over six weeks. Members are now looking forward to a more continuous programme for the remainder of the season commencing with a match against the Puhlic Works Department at Rotorua, which was due to be played after this paper went to press. In the earlv matches Taupo show- j ed good form al though in the

first match v. N. Coles Ltd. team from Putaruru they found some difficulty in getting their opponents out. The home team had no trouble in passing their opponents total for the loss of only four wickets thanks to a good knock by Forester, followed by forceful hitting by McKean and Thomas. Loughlin obtained two quick wickets in the second match against P.W.D., Rotorua, and four were out for 28 but then Hooper and Higgins added exactly 100 and the total eventually reached 165. This proved just too much for the home batsmen who lacked resolution and allowed the visitors to obtain a lead of 21 runs. When Taupo visited Reporoa they secured a win but their opponents were not at full strength and when this team visits Taupo later in the season they may expect a hard fight. Strange and Collett batted well in this match and Forster flighted the ball well to secure the best bowling figures. Unfortunately Tokaanu cricket is very weak at the moment and the team was not at full strength when they played Taupo in their first match of the season. The result should not be taken as a fair indication of the difference between the Jeams particularly as Loughlin was exceptionally hostile in the first innings and showed form which he could not repeat in Tokaanu's second knock. It is to be hoped that more talent will -be found at the southern end of the lake in the near future. Loughlin's 9 wickets for eight runs was a fine perfformance which included four wickets in four balls and later in the innings a further two with successive deliveries. The fifth match was another home game, this time against Kaingaroa. The visitors batted steadily throughout and set the home team a task which in spite of a dogged innings by Collett, they never looked like accomplishing. The following are brief scores of matches played: — October 28, 1951, at Taupo. N. Coles Ltd. (Putaruru) 200 for 9 wickets declared.
