FAMILY RE-UNION

One of the Christmas gifts received by Mrs Gillies and family was the arrival from America of her aaughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Don Brandle. Mrs Brandle, /known as "Lovie" to her friends here, left Taupo four and one-half years ago and has been residing in Cushing, Oklahoma, where her husband is a journalist. Apart from her mother and family iand friends here, Mrs Brandle said that she missed most of all the clear waters of Lake Taupo. "The Cimarron river runs close to our home in America, and is a very muddy bit of water," she said. "All the lakes near us were man-made and almost >as muddy as the river." n Mrs Brandle said that sh ehas many new friends in Oklahoma and is kept busy at her job as assistant to a geologist in the oil industry. While in America, she visited many places and states, with points of interest including New York Uity's Empire State building, Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, Pike's Peak, Boulder Dam, and the mileslong San Francisco Bay bridge. They flew from San Francisco on December 21 and landed at Auckland 27 hours later Stopping points jvere at Honolulu, Canton Island, and Fiji. Fine weather prevailed all the way, except at Auckland, where fio g prevented the BritisEi jairliner -from landing for almost an hour. The trip was auite smooth, with the plane flying 350 miles per hour ait 18,000 feet. Before joining the plane they drove their car from Oklahoma to San Francisco a distance, of (1,900 miles, in three and one-half days. I While in Taupo, the couple will renew old acquaintances, go fishing ano boating, and Mr Brandle plans much deer stalking while here. They wil fly back to America on i March 18. i (
