! FAREWELL FUNCTIONS Parents, Day at Taupo School on the eve of the breaking up for the > Christmas holidays was marked by | farewell functions aranged in honour of the headmaster, Mr F. Crane, and Mrs Crane. Mr Crane takes up a r.ew appointment in the Maungapapa School, Gisborne district after the holidays. The day was fine, and the school children mustered in classes in the playground. | On behalf of the School Comj mittee, Mr Baumberg (chairman), presented Mr and Mrs Crane with a framed picture of a Taupo scene as a memento of their stay in the district. Mr Bucklagh, for the Home : and School Association, a clock. | After apropriate speech-making, in | whichi complimentary references | were miade to the good work of Mr I and Mrsi Crane for the school. After- | noon tea was served by the senior j girls. Mr Oyston on behalf of the teaching staff also presented a memento. A public farewell was subsequently tendered Mr and Mrs Crane in Rickets Hall, which was packed for the occasion. In a brief speech the chairman of the committee, Mr Baumberg referred regretfully to the impending departure of the guests of the evening, and then called upon the head prefect, Leonie Manning, to do the honours. In a graceful speech she presented Mr and Mrsi Crane with a very useful picnic basket. The rest of the evening was devoted to dancing, and j refreshments were dispenced all j round. The new headmaster is Mr L. Osborne, who is transferring on ap- 1 pointment, from North Auckland. j
