Te Aroha West School Concert.

The annual concert in aid of the school children’s prizes took place in the School on Thursday evening last. The building was packed to its utmost capacity and many had to stand in the porch and be content to listen without a view of the performers Messrs Thompson and Gwflliam drove a coach load of performers from Te Aroha, and a large number of visitors were present from surrounding districts. The items rendered by the school children were a feature of the evening and a warm word of praise w due to N£r and AJrs Bell, also Miss Ferguson, whose efforts were go successful in training the children. The items by Masters Hines and Mackwood were loudly applauded as were all tbe items of the children. Miss Stanley played an overture ; Rev. Cleary, Messrs Scott and Raynor rendered “ A Little Farm Well Tilled ” ; Rev. Blair received an encore for his reading ; Messrs Buchan and Donovan were pleasing in a cornet duet ; Mr Nightingale bronght down the house with bis comic songs ; Mr Donovan played a cornet solo in his well-known style; Mr Blair sang with feeling “ The Romany Lass ” ; Mr L. Buchan scored with a comic song, and Mr Nightingale was equally successful iu his budget of comic songs. Mr Raliegh, chairman of the School Committee, presided. The visiting performers were entertained to supper by Mr and Mrs Bell. A most enjoyable dance was held after the eoncert, the ladies of the district providing supper.
