Waitoa Notes.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) This district is slowly but surely pushing its way to the front, and I might add, why shouldn’t it ad* vance, considering this part of the Valley contains some of the best land in the Dominion. All that is wanted is drainage, and plenty of it. lam sorry to see that my old friend, Mr Henry, is determined to be a member or Chairman of a Drainage Board—however small—and he and his colleagues are taking steps with this end in view. This sort of thing is keeping our district back. It is to be hoped the Government do not grant the request. There are too many local bodies already. Messrs Henry and party have had twelve months of office, and accomplished very little, let them give the new Board a fair trial.
There is some talk of sale yards being erected out this way.. We also want a public hall, etc., etc. The settlers between Eastport Road and No. 7 Road, also want to be made a separate drainage area. The more the merrier.
We are wondering out here if the Mackenzie who signed that petition for separation, and the Mackenzie, who is a member of the Waitoa Drainage Board, is one and the same person ?
We expect a good number at the concert on Wednesday evening.
