Great Coal Strike
THOUSAND MEN IDLE RAILWAY SERVICES REDUCED Sydney, December 2. A thousand men are now idle and the number is increasing daily; Further reductions have been made in the railway services. MINE STARTS WORK The Young Wallsend mine started working to-day. CABINET MEETING HELD POSITION NOT PROMISING Mr Learmouth saw Mr Wade in.the morning. Subsequently a Cabinet meeting was held at Mr Wade's residence and discussed the strike position, but nothing was divulged as to the progress of negotiations for bringing the parties together or the Government’s intern tions in the event of failure. It is believed the possibility of the* parties coming together is not promising. THE P. AND 0. COMPANY A CARGO OF COAL WORKED BY COAL LUMPERS The Strike Congress considered the request of the P. and 0. Company tor the Coal Lumpers’ Union to discharge 6000 tons of Japanese coal which, arrived on Monday by the steamer, and intended for the company’s mail liners. Late to-night it was announced tho coal lumpers would work the coal.
