Bowling.

Judging by the interest taken in bowling by both old and young, it looks as if the season 1909-10 will be a most successful one.

The Committee of the local Bowling Club met in the Tourist Office on Wednesday evening, when there were present: Messrs A. F. Burton, President (in the chair), and D, McL. Wallace, G. F, McGirr, H. Dalton, H. Gahagan, J. Brown, R. L. Somers, J. Maiugay, and Wm. Mclnman (hon. sec ). Letters re rubberoid mats, etc., from Tourist Department and others were read and discussed. It was decided to commence the Annual Tournament on New Year’s Day (Saturday) and continue cn Monday. Entries for which will close with Mr Carlow, Auckland, on the 27th December, and with the Secretary at Te Aroha on the 29th.

A meeting of the Match Committee was held immediately afterwards, when the following arrangements were made in connection with the Club’s single and pairs competitions, for which good entries have been received. In each case the first rouud must be finished before the 27th inst., and a week allowed for each round thereafter. For the Singles Competition (sealed handicap), the draw resulted :

A. Section—Dalton v. Somers • Brown v. Nash Cleary a bye. B. Section—Burton v. Mclnman McKee v. Hubbard Ashby a bye. C. Section—Wallace v. White Gahagan v. Salmon Hedge a bye. D. Section —McGirr v. Henderson Maingay v Stockbridge Bruce a bye. In the final four winners will be left to fight out for three prizes. Each winner to play each other \y inner. Ties to play off.

Draw for Handicap Pairs, as follows, last-mentioned in each instance to act as skip .-—Stockbridge and Mclnman, scratch ; Raynor and Henderson, one point; Ashby and Gahagan, and Hedge and Maingay, two points ; McSweeney and Somers, Bruce and Brown, Crickett and Salmon, and Saunders and Hubbard, three points ; Cornish and Cleary, four points.

A. Section—McSweeney and Somer3 v, Ashby and Gahagan Raynor and Henderson v, Cricket and Salmon.

Saunders and Hubbard a bye. B. Section—Stockbridge and Mclnman v. Bruce and Brown Hedge and Maingay v. Cornish and Cleary.
