WAITOA DRAINAGE-THE NEW BOARD.
To the Editor,
Sir,—As one who voted for Mr Mackenzie at the recent election, I must say that I am somewhat disappointed at his first speech at the meeting on Friday last. It looks as if all that Mackenzie is interested in is whether it will suit his own farm ; does it drain his land ; he will get more benefit from this than’ he will from that drain, and sj on. We did not send him there to grind his own axe > we ha ve had too much of that already. I thought Mackenzie was more broad-minded and would work for the good of the -whole drainage area. I
notice one of the members reminded him of this fact. If it is only a question of looking after your own little plot of ground, it is not five but fifty-five members that should be on the Board. As for my friend, Mr Matthew Henry I trust he is going to play the game properly, and not be a second addition of Corrigan. If be does not intend to take bis seat, let him resign. It only means another election, more expense for nothing—we have had plenty of Ihis from Mr Henry—nothing to see for our money. Well, Mr Editor, I trust you will see your way to insert this in your outspoken paper.—l am, etc.,
