Waikato Presbytery.

A MEETING of the Waikato Presbytery was held at Morrinsville to consider the call from Hamilton to Rev. A. Gow, of Paeroa. There were present: —Revs. Scott, of Rotorua, Moderator; White, Waihi, clerk; Gow, Paeroa ; and Elder Howie, Morrinsville. The call bore the signature of 115 members, and was Accompanied by one of concurrence from seventy-six adherents.

The Moderator being also Moderator of Hamilton during the vacaucy, told of the exemplary manner Hamilton hid borne its doss and disappointment, and in the call to Mr Gow showed unanimity and heartiness.

Mr Ramsay, session clerk of Hamilton, appeared on behalf of his congregation and said his duty was like that of Eliezer, of Damascus, who was sent forth by Abraham on an important errand, but he had this advantage that the people had made their choice. Indeed, his instructions were like those received by the parents of Samson —“ Get this minister for us, for he pleaseth us well.” Rev. Mr White appeared on behalf of the Paeroa congregation expressing retret at the likelihood of Mr Gow’s eparture, but concuning with the call.

Mr Gow, in accepting, said that the hand of Providence was plain in the matter. He was not dissatisfied with Paeroa, but circumstances over which he had no control had said to him “ this is not your rest.” The greatness of the work at Hamilton moment seemed to dismay him, but what he had seen of the people on a recent visit, and what he had heard from friends encouraged him, therefore he accepted the call trusting in higher help than man, feeling that it was his duty to accept the call/ The induction was arranged for Tuesday, 7th prox., at 7.30 p.m. Eevs. Gow, Cambridge; Blair, Te Aroha; Scott, Botorua ; and Ward, Taumarunui will take part in the services.
