BOWLING.
A committee meeting of the Te Aroha Bowling Club took place in the Tourist Office the other evening, when there were present : —Mr A. F. Burton (President, in the chair) and Messrs G. F. McGirr, H. Gahagan, J. T. Maingay, and Wm. Mclnman (hon. sec.) Invitations were received to be present at the opening of the following greens : Onehunga, October 23rd(; Whitiora (Hamilton), November 6th ; Thames, November 4th ; Grey Lynn, November 3rd. It was left in the hands of the Secretary and Mr McGirr to arrange details in connection with refreshments for {the various functions during the season. At the Match Committee meeting, held subsequently, it was decided to call for entries for the pairs competition (President and vice President’s bowls), and single competition (Watson’s bowls, Spooner’s bowl case, and Morrin’s forks' entries for which will he received up to Wednesday, 1 7th inst.. at 8 p.m. The prospects of the local Club for the 1909-10 season are decidedly encouraging. It is expected that the Club register will contain more members than during any previous season. There was a good attendance at the official opening of the Karangahake Club’s green on Saturday afternoon last.
The Stars Competition takes place at Karangahake on November 20. It is expected that at least one team from Te Aroha will enter.
On Saturday afternoon several rinks on No. 1 green were thrown open and interesting full rink and pairs games resulted. Considering the wet weather of late the rinks were in fairly good order.
