Concert at Elstow
Notwithstanding counter attractions there was a crowded house at Elstow on Friday evening last, when a most successful concert took place The concert was arranged in order to raise funds towards paying off the balance owing on the new organ, recently purchased. During the evening Mr Herbert was specially requested to give those present an idea of the musical powers of the new instrument, which he did in a most satisfactory manner. Refreshments were handed round by the ladies and were greatly appreciated. The following programme was gone through : —Pianoforte solo Miss Herbert, song Miss Nona Stanley (encored), recitation “ Edinborough after Flodden Miss Nelson, song Mr McKenzie (encored), cornet solo Mr Tom Donovan (encored), song “ Kathleen Mavourneen ” Miss McCormick, recitation Mrs Clark. Interval. Pianoforte and violin duet “ Mountain Daisies ” Misses Cooper (encored), vocal quartette Misses Barlow and Horn and Messrs Cooper and Horn (encored), recitation “ Following a Star ” Miss F. Nelson, song Miss Nona Stanley; song Mr J. R. Strange, song “ She’s Far from the Land ” Miss McCormick, song Rev. P. Cleary (encored), song, Mr McKenzie, lightening sketches, Mr J. W*ild. At the conclusion of the programme the Rev. P. Cleary, on behalf of the Committee, thanked all who had assisted in any way towards making the concert such a success, especially those who came from a distance.
