Drainage Meeting at Waitoa

On Saturday evening last the Chairman of the Waitoa Drainage Board (Mr Matthew Henry) called a meeting of ratepayers in the Waitoa schoolhouse, for the purpose of making a statement, as was announced by advertisement in the local press. There was a good attendance notwithstanding the threatening state of the weather. Mr Yardley was voted to the chair. , . . Mr Heriry, who was greeted witn applause, read a somewhat lengthy speech, containing a resume of all that had transpired in connection with the Waitoa Drainage Board since its incep - [l.Various remarks were interjected during the reading of the statement, by those who took exception to certain things contained therein. The meeting was fairly lively at times. Other speakers also referred to the past actions of the Board, some in a favourable light, and others adversely. A vote of 1 hanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
