In the North Auckland Times of Monday last appears a long leading article in support of the efforts of Mr H. Poland M* P., to have sewing machines provided at a cheaper rate. The editor of the North Auckland Times is Mr J. Reid, at one time a resident of Paeroa.
The friends of Mr E. H. Taylor, M.P., who underwent an operation at Wellington, will be pleased to leara that he is reported to be progressing favourably, but it is expected that he will be incapacitated for at least two or three weeks.
In honour of his first visit to his native town in Shetland after an absence of forty six years, Sir Robert Stout was entertained at Lerwick at a reception given by the provost, magistrates, and Town Council. The Chief Justice of New Zealand was accompanied on his visit to Lerwick by Lady Stout and Miss Stout. Two hundred guests from all parts of the Shetland Islands attended the reception in the Town Hall. During the quarter ended September 30th., last the postal and telegraph revenue collected at the general post office Auckland, totalled £35,199 6s 3d. The postal revenue amounted to £23,055 19s 6d and the telegraph revenue to £12,143 6s 9d.
The payments made by _ the New Zealand Dairy Association, Limited, for butterfat supplied during the month of September totalled £15,464 14s Bd.. For the same month last year the similar payments aggregated £10,397 3d. Thus there is an increase of £5,067 6s sd. More than one person when riding or driving along the road towards Elstow has stopped and scrutinised the one-span concrete bridge recently put down by Supervisor Johnson across the creek near Mr Rowe’s property. The bridge does the Supervisor credit. It is not of the sort that requires overhauling every two or three years, and renewing altogether ere many years have passed, A new issue of stamps took place yesterday in consequence of the change of the colony to Dominion.
