THE PROPOSED CARNIVAL.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Appropos to our proposed carnival for Te Aroha. Would you or any of the readers of your popular paper inform me and one or two more enthusiasts in thisi town whether the project is likely to come to anything or not. I attended the last public meeting called, as I thought, to decide to hold it or otherwise. At that meeting, in reply to a question put to the chairman re any guarantees promised, he stated that so far £175 was promised. That, with the probable retail on Railway tickets from the Railway Department and also a percentage on bath tickets over and above their weekly average is good enough (in my mind) as a nucleus to go on with the project. For some reason there seems to be an apathy about this carnival existing in the minds of those who will, without a shadow of doubt, be direct gainers if such a function is held. I notice while we are trying to make up our minds other adjacent towns are getting to work and will if we do not wake (up to our own interests cut the ground from under our feet.—l am, et., The Major, and also one of the Guarantors.
