The official opening of the Te Aroha tenuis courts take place to-morrow afternoon iu the Domain. The Rev. W. C. Blair left Te Aroha by the “ wild cat ” last evening, en route for Christchurch, in order to be present at the Presbyterian General Assembly, the reverend gentleman will be absent from Te Aroha for about two weeks. Services, next Sunday morning and evening, in the Te Aroha Presbyterian Church, will be conducted by Mr N. D. McKenzie, of Knox College, Dunedin. Mr McKenzie will also conduct service in the Manawaru district at 2.30 p.m.
Mr Nightingale, of Gordon, has kindly consented to assist at the School concert to-morrow (Wednesday) evening. He will provide the humorous, element, without which most concerts are incomplete. The Taylor-Carrington Co. will stage a new adaptation of Mrs Henry Wood’s world-famed story “ East Lynne,” at the Public Hall. Te Aroha, on Friday night next. Inclement weather made it impossible for Paeroa bowlers to hold the official opening of their green on Saturday last. Mr Thos, Taylor, Srpr. has disposed of his property at Waihou, apd given instructions t > Messrs Mackie and Sons, auctioneer*, to sell the whole of his household furniture and effects. The sale takes place on Wednesday, November, fird. Yesterday afternoon Allison’s milk cart was tied up opposite the Post Office. Some boys appeered on the scene with a packet of crackers, and setting them alight, the horse attached to the vehicle became affrighted and dashing forward, broke tho haines*, etc., and got cleanout of the shafts. Boys and their crackers in the public streets have been a source of annoyance for some weeks past, Gents Panama Brazillion Boaters and other Straw Hats, an immense stock just opened. At the Waitoa Drainage meeting the other evening Mr A. Swn y, in accepting nmnmtiion, said he favoured classifying the land, and keeping the drains as near as possible to the natural fall. He had h\d considerable experience in draining. Mr Win. Gallagher also accepted nomination. In speaking of the best way to drain tho estite said that the greater bulk of the water west of No, 7 road should go to the Piako, there being ample fall, therefore there was no necessity for making the Ohine Creek the main outlet for the whole estate.
